Missing Michael Jackson: It’s too late to apologize

We created you, then we destroyed you. We tend to do that with celebrities. You shone the brightest, so you had to fall the furthest. We showered you with awards and then made you into a monster. We turned your innocence into something vile, trashed your name, and destroyed your soul. It is no wonder you weren’t able to sleep. I can’t imagine what must have been going through your head for the last 16 years of your life, but I know I wouldn’t have lasted that long under such tremendous pain and pressure.

You were simply trying to keep the pain at bay. I wish I could have been there to help in some manner. Maybe I could have just held your hand and listened.

I hope you are out there somewhere dancing and singing and feeling whole. I hope I get to thank you one day for making my life so much better.

I love and miss you, Michael Joseph Jackson.

These tears I’ve cried,
I’ve cried a thousand oceans
And if it seems I’m floating
In the darkness
Well, I can’t believe that I would keep,
Keep you from flying
And I would cry a thousand more if that’s
What it takes to sail you home,
Sail you home, sail you home*

  1. Oh Brian, you made me cry with this beautiful statement. I wish you could come to Germany and visit the great photo exhibition about Michael in Pforzheim. It wasn’t allowed to take pictures there, but I found a German MJ fan site thread which shows many of the wonderful MJ portraits: Click (just scroll down a little).
He was such a sweet man *sigh*…

  2. Anke: The photo of MJ from the shoot for “Earth Song” literally made my heart skip a beat. It is now one of my all time favorites. Thanks for linking to the exhibit. I would love to see that in real life!
