Quick and easy homemade chili

This is one of our favorite recipes. It’s fast, simple, and tastes great! It started from a recipe I found online and refined a little. We usually use ground turkey instead of beef, and the Tabasco gives it a nice kick.

Easy Homemade Chili

1 lb ground beef or turkey
1 chopped onion
1 (14.5 oz) can stewed tomatoes
1 (15 oz) can tomato sauce
1 (16 oz) can dark red kidney beans
1 (16 oz) can light red kidney beans
½ cup water
2 tsp chili powder
½ tsp garlic powder
3 pinches of salt
Ground pepper to taste
A few dashes of Tabasco

Combine beef and onion in a large saucepan over medium heat. Cook until meat is browned and onion is tender. Add stewed tomatoes with juice, tomato sauce, beans, and water.

Season with chili powder, garlic powder, salt and ground black pepper to taste. Bring to a boil, reduce heat to low, cover, and let simmer for 15 minutes.

Yum’s the word

I have never cooked an actual Thanksgiving dinner before, but I’m going to give it a shot this year. We typically fill up on holiday eats at our respective mom’s houses and then bring the leftovers home. While we will still follow that tradition this year, we have decided to invite a couple of our friends over for a traditional home-cooked meal Thanksgiving evening.

Here’s the menu so far (subject to change):

Dressing – Mom’s making me an additional 9×13 pan from her fabulous recipe
Sweet Potato Casserole
Green Bean Casserole
Whole Kernel Sweet Corn
Sister Shubert Rolls
Pumpkin Pie

I’m starving just thinking about it!

After eating, we’ll relax in front of the television to watch my all-time favorite movie, Home for the Holidays. Can’t wait! =)
