Our weather forecast for the coming week. Yikes!
The title to this post is an expression that an old friend of mine would use when it was sweltering outside. I always found it rather funny and would get a mental image of some prostitute sweating profusely as a loud-mouthed minister pointed out the error of her ways.
We have had a rather strange day around here. There was a huge electrical storm early this morning that left the place I work in the dark. Everyone showed up and basically sat around doing nothing while maintenance tried to fix the problem.
With no real progress by lunchtime, I went to eat and spent the rest of the afternoon at home in bed. After waking up, we realized that a tornadic storm was heading for our area, so we went to the local hospital to see our neighbor and ride out the weather in what we consider to be a safer building than our house.
The hospital made everyone get in the bathrooms until the storm passed, and our neighbor was very frightened. She said she was very glad that we were there, so it was one of those rare moments when you know you’re in the right place at the right time.
It’s almost 10 o’clock, and there is another line of storms heading for us. I’m trying not to get too nervous, but it’s difficult. I’ve never liked storms, and they seem to be getting more severe all the time. Perhaps related to global warming, perhaps not, but unusual for the first day of fall.
Today was absolutely beautiful. The sun was shining, the clouds were light and wispy, the sky was blue, and the temperature was just right. The perfect autumn day.
As I type this entry, I am laying in my comfortable bed snuggled up with Twinkie (who can’t decide whether to purr or sleep), the scent of dinner still lingers in the air, and my heart is completely content. I am one lucky son of a gun.
Church – Didn’t go. Feel guilty about it.
Cooking – I’m starting to really enjoy it. I cut up and cooked a whole chicken for the first time last week, and that was an experience. Handling raw meat really isn’t my thing, but it’s alot cheaper than buying individual pieces of chicken at Wally World.
Weather – It’s been much cooler here over the last couple of days. We had a cold front blow through on Friday with some of the blackest clouds and highest winds I have ever witnessed. I was expecting a tornado to drop from the sky at any moment. I’m sure it is only a matter of days before it’s boiling hot outside again.
