The latest on Tammy Faye’s battle with cancer

Entertainment Tonight had a telephone interview with Tammy Faye this evening and they showed two photos that were taken of her last weekend. She’s down to 63 pounds, but she wants the world to see that she’s still going and hasn’t lost faith. I must admit that the photo breaks my heart and I only wish I had an iota of her faith.

tammy_faye_cancerToday is kind of a rough day for me. I have really wonderful days, and I have really bad days.

I would say I’m in pain almost 100 percent of the time. My back hurts, so I had to go to a wheelchair. And I have a very bad tummy all the time.

When they said there’s nothing more we can do, for just about a minute I felt sorry for myself, had my little pity party. Then I said, ‘I’ve got somebody bigger than the doctors, I know the Lord Jesus Christ, and He can do something for it.’ He’s the only one that can, and so I just trust Him every day.

Today I want you to remember: You can’t go forward, looking in the rear view mirror, yesterday is gone, you cannot put a broken egg back together again so don’t spend your energy trying.

Today is all we have so live it fully. Tomorrow may not come, we are not promised tomorrow. Princess Di thought she had many tomorrows, John Kennedy Jr. thought he had many tomorrows, Marilyn Monroe thought she had many tomorrows, Sonny Bono thought he had many tomorrows, Selena thought she had many tomorrows. So we must make today count, make today the best day of your life.”

Amen, Tammy. God bless you.

  1. I’ve been under a rock somewhere–I had no idea she was so sick. I know she has been the brunt of many jokes over the years, but I’ve always felt that Tammy Faye has exemplified what it is to be a true Jesus-follower .

(I don’t use the word “christian” anymore, as it has been so abused by churchy people whose lives and beliefs don’t resemble much of anything Jesus taught).

Tammy Faye has consistently demonstrated the love of Jesus and even in her final days she is a powerful example faith, hope and love.

  2. I was one of those people who enjoyed making fun of Tammy Faye back in the day when she and Jim Bakker had their show. I can be a hollow snob with the best of them.

Tammy Faye’s the real deal and a powerful testimony not only to faith but to the call for each of us to be true to who we are. What power there is in THAT.

  3. I found this comment over on Dlisted and wanted to share it with you guys. It is just so sweet.

I have been a flight attendant for several years and have had the pleasure of getting to visit with this woman on more then one occasion.

One might not know what to expect with her…..well, prior to The Surreal Life, bless her heart.

Here is what I would like the whole world to know about her (though its not much I suppose):

Never, ever, has a woman smelled better then this sweet gal. Seriously, and though hardly professional…..whenever she would board my plane in BFE Kansas, if I remember right….anyway I would forget my professional facade and run up and squeeze and love her! Seriously, I forgot that she was famous.

When you fly for a living you deal with, serve and coddle alot of famous people.

    Tammy is genuine and wonderful.

I love her. And her makeup and cuteness and all that are not only much more adorable in person then one would ever beleive, she is pure in her heart.

I hate that she is in pain. Hate it.

    Ok, Thats all.

    She smells so good.

She is a living and breathing cupcake, that is what she is!

  4. I didn’t follow Tammy Fayes’ way of life but I did see the interview with Larry King and I must say, I felt so so bad for her but I was amazed at her faith level and that she truly believed she was going to see God when she sies. I think any-one who watched her interview that night will be helped if they are sick or dying. I must say it made me feel alot better about my immortality. I know Tammy Faye is in a better place now and all her pain is gone. I want to tell her family that I’m sorry for their loss.

    God Bless,

  5. While I sympathize with Tammy’s plight, truth be told here… no ‘god’ of any kind factors into any of this. Let go of the mythology and superstition, wake up folks. I remember Tammy back in the day when I visited Heritage Village. I always had a fun time while ignoring her and Jim’s endless pleas for money, which, by the way, should never have happened if any true ‘god’ were really part of the whole PTL Ministry. Today the lies have been handed down to the TBN Ministry and Jan is a replica of Tammy, she lives on! Above all, thru the tears and runny eye-liner, I could always see Tammy smiling, making the best of every moment she could. She will be missed.
