Jana Mashonee’s ‘The Price’ : What the heck is she saying?

I need your help. This is one of my favorite songs, but I can’t figure out the words in a few spots. I’ve tried searching for the lyrics online and have repeatedly emailed Jana for the official version, but have had no luck. Give it a listen and leave your suggestions/corrections in the comment box.

The Price
By Jana Mashonee

Life is good to me
But it don’t come easy
Working constantly
To keep from going crazy
Not everyone can say
They’re happy with their lives today

There’s no guarantees
If you want satisfaction
People hard to please
?_______________?
Not everyone can play
The good life when there’s a price to pay

So be aware of all the things you want
Prepare to pay the price for what you need
Cause nothing in the world is free to take
That’s just the price of life we have to pay

Life is good to me
With open doors to go through
And I will selfishly
Keep going if I have to
Cause not everyone can say
They’re happy with their lives today

So be aware of all the things you want
Prepare to pay the price for what you need
Cause nothing in the world is free to take
That’s just the price of life we have to pay

So be aware of all the things you want
Prepare to pay the price for what you need
Cause nothing in the world is free to take
That’s just the price of life we have to pay

Not everyone can say
Not everyone can play
The good life when there’s a price to pay

Let no one see you cry
Where is the strength in weakness
Don’t quit before you try

  1. On the last line I am hearing “righteous is where the peak is” but I am not sure this makes sense. The first one I have no idea that makes any sense.

  2. I really, really wanted to put my two cents in on this. Unfortunately, the song wouldn’t stop buffering for me, so I never heard it.

  3. Thanks for sending it. Okay, 20 minutes of playing these lines over and over again with headphones and I still didn’t make out great in deciphering it. I’m probably making it worse, but I heard it a little differently than you and I only got the beginning and end of the missing line in paragraph two:

    There’s no guarantees
    If you want satisfaction
    People hard to please
    We …. for reaction
Not everyone can take [In paragraph 5 she also rhymed “take” and “play”]
The good life when there’s a price to pay

And the last line I also heard as “righteous is where the peak is.”

  4. @ Wendy: Thanks so much for helping me with these lyrics.

I can’t hear a “t” sound where you are hearing “take” and I’m pretty sure she says “play” during this segment:

    Not everyone can say
    Not everyone can play
The good life when there’s a price to pay

I think you’re right about “We … for reaction”. The missing word is completely undecipherable for me.

“Righteous is where the peak is” makes no sense to me at all, but you’re the second person that hears that. I always heard “Righteous is where the pink is”, which makes even less sense. :)

  5. I’ve been looking for this song everywhere on the internet. Does anyone know where I can find it? I’ve tried google, yahoo, metacrawler, windows media, all the music websites I can think of.

  6. Please i’ve also been looking for this song and can’t find it anywhere. Could you please send it to me. I would be so grateful. Thanks a lot
